Let's get going already! |
Wait! There's a third dog on the trail with us! |
Life is good:) |
There are many great trails to trek with the dogs in the Sierras. It’s a real plus to head out with the Urban Trail harnesses, the towline, and the canicross harness. Running and hiking hands free is very comfortable. I can check my GPS, get a drink of water, snack on an energy bar, etc. without fumbling with leashes in my hands. Sometimes we run, other times we hike fast. Together we can cover more miles in less time. The dogs help pull me up steep ascents, saving energy for more distance. Long switchbacks are no problem with canine propulsion! I can simply unclip them at rest stops or other times when I let them offleash. I don’t have to take off their harnesses. They’ve even swam at water crossings while wearing the harnesses. The setup also works great for keeping the dogs with me. I don't have to worry about them chasing deer or having a close bear encounter. We recently ran across a large rattlesnake on the trail. The encounter may have been tragic had they been running ahead of me offleash instead of helping me ascend the trail with the canicross line.
